Artist Statement - Portraits, People and Pets

I try to bring forth the purity and variety of color in all portraits, while capturing the likeness and the spirit of the subject. I want my portraits to evoke an emotion in the viewers...to enjoy the memories, to be stimulated by color and light, and to have the image tug at their hearts. They are true lasting reminders of their loved ones.

Artist Statement – the California Collection

In my art I try to bring forth the purity and variety of color in all things, while preserving the reality and emotion of the subject matter.  In my California Collection, I want my paintings to evoke an emotion in the viewer – to enjoy the memory of an ocean scene, to be stimulated by colors and light, or to be refreshed by the peace and comfort of the subject matter. Each painting starts with a visit to the particular California scene I want to capture on canvas.  I want to experience the emotion of the scene, I want to feel the atmosphere, and enjoy the color.  In some cases I will set up my easel and paint on the spot.  In other instances,  I take many photographs which I then later use in my studio to create the painting.  And it is my desire that the viewer will enjoy the finished results of my creations as much as I enjoyed painting them.

Artist Statement – Floral Explosion Collection

It is my desire to capture God’s great floral creations and transfer them to images that will not wither and fade away.  The collection, florals enlarged and done in watercolor, acrylics, and oils, brings forth the unique designs and colors of each creation.  This enables the viewers to become aware of the intricacy and hue or each design allowing them to appreciate God’s attention to detail in even the smallest flower. Each painting starts with the actual flower.  I study and photograph the flower, and plan the composition before I put a brush to the canvas.  It is my desire to duplicate nature’s colors as close as possible while preserving the artistic design.  Although the flower represents realism, there is also an abstract quality of design.  It is my desire that the viewer will experience the emotions intended as they take in the colors and designs of the Floral Explosion Collection.
